Current Mood: satisfied

Sick of the highway robbery of ink jet cartridge prices, and dealing with a flakey HP 2000C ink jet printer, I decided to get a laser printer. I was planning to get a higher end consumer-grade laser printer - one with duplex printing, built in network print server, etc. However, a friend clued me in on the Brother HL-2040 monochrome laser printer. It was $150.00 at Staples with a $50.00 easy online rebate. I figured for $100.00, I couldn’t go wrong. The toner that comes with it will only print about 1,500 pages. The regular $60 toner cartridge will print about 2,500 pages. The drum should last for 12,000 pages. This is way better than my ink jet. I seldom need color printing. When I want to print photo’s I order online or take a CD to a Kodak photo kiosk. The print quality for text is very good and graphics is fair. It is very fast at printing 16-20 pages per minute depending on who you believe. This CNET review gives it a good rating. The hardest part was sharing it so that my wife’s Windows laptop could access it from my Mac.
