Iām John Duprey, a distinguished engineer for Thomson Reuters. Iāve been in the software development industry for nearly thirty years - working in applied research and development of ai-based solutions for professionals such as lawyers, tax professionals, etc. Iāve primarily worked in the areas of search and recommendation systems for news and legal vertical search. Most recently, I helped develop and deliver Thomson Reutersā first generative AI solution.
While Iāve spent many years in management as a senior engineering director, Iāve recently transitioned back to an engineering focus - a ādistinguished engineer.ā Iām a software engineering generalist at heart. Iām not an AI or machine learning expert, although given the area I work in, Iām often considered one. I bring a broad range of software engineering skills to bear on problems and I enjoy working with those who are truly experts in AI and ML.
I love open source and have been an advocate for Linux since the early nineties. My enthusiasm for Linux peaked in 2001 when I published TurboLinux Bible. Since the release of Mac OS X, Iāve enjoyed a beautiful desktop experience with solid āNix underpinnings.
I enjoy science fiction and fantasy and am impatiently waiting for the next release of Brandon Sandersonās next book in the Stormlight Archive series.
Iām a husband, father, and cycling enthusiast. My life is so much richer for it.
